Pat Gardner


Pat received a BS degree in Education of the Hearing Impaired from Eastern Michigan University and a M.Ed. in teaching students with Emotional Handicaps from Wayne State University.

Before moving to Sarasota and teaching students with all exceptionalities (primarily hearing impaired), she taught at the Detroit Day School for the Deaf. Pat has been Treasurer and Vice President of SCTA and became the President in 2002.

She has two daughters that graduated from Riverview High School in Sarasota and are attending college and law school.

Chris Mayer

Vice President

Chris graduated from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a BS in Elementary Education and later added Early Childhood Education and an ESOL endorsement. She has been teaching in Sarasota County, at Ashton Elementary School, for 31 years. She taught 8 years of Kindergarten and the last 23 years in first grade.

Chris has been a senior building representative for 31 years as well as serving as instructional executive board member, Treasurer, TIGER chair, and currently Vice President.

Recently, she was involved in the “Cinderella’s Closet” project that enabled area high school girls to have a dress and accessories for their proms. Chris is the proud mother of two young men … David an ’06 “Gator Grad” and Thomas a graduating PGA Professional from Florida Gulf Coast University. David and Thomas are Riverview Ram graduates!

Karyn Fitz


Karyn received a B.A in Physical Education and an M.A. in Exercise Physiology/Health/Wellness from the University of Central Florida. She has worked for the School board since 1989. Karyn initially worked as an interpreter for deaf and hearing impaired students. She is currently a Health teacher at Riverview High. She has served as Secretary and on the SC/TA Executive, Internal Affairs and Finance Committees.

Victoria Gross


Vicky received a BS degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a M.S. degree in Speech/Language Pathology both from the University of South Florida. Before moving to Sarasota, she worked in a private practice doing speech and language therapy for toddlers and preschoolers. In Sarasota, she has worked as a Speech/Language Pathologist and ESE Liaison. Currently she is a Program Specialist in the Pupil Support Services department. Vicky has served as the SC/TA Secretary since 2007. She is married and has two middle school aged children.
