An Illogical Proposal at the State Level

The new proposal for teacher evaluations is illogical on so many levels.

First, the underlying tests have not yet been shown to be valid. The State has hired an outside group to evaluate that exact issue. Wouldn’t we first establish that the tests are valid and that what is being measured really matters before we base teacher evaluation on it?

Also, what this proposal does is lock in a different evaluation system for different groups of teachers. Does anyone really think a teacher of a non-tested subject should have an easier (or harder for that matter) path to a good evaluation, especially if money could be tied to that evaluation?

Talk about a disincentive to teach the more challenging subjects!
